Spring onion and cheddar stuffed bread
A South African goodie, especially for a braai: a ciabatta sliced almost through and stuffed between every slice with matured cheddar, cream cheese and mayonnaise, then baked until the cheese is melted and the bread is lightly golden and crisped in places.

A far better option than just old plain garlic bread. Serve the bread warm with extra spring onion slices sprinkled over.
Method
- 01
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- 02
In a bowl, combine the matured cheddar, cream cheese, mayonnaise, milk, spring onions and butter, and stir to combine well.
- 03
Next, cut the ciabatta into 1,5 cm-thick slices, but do not slice through the base of the bread.
- 04
Spread a thick layer of the cheese mixture between each slice, then place the loaf in a baking tray.
- 05
Bake in the preheated oven, 20–30 minutes, until the cheese is melted, and the bread is lightly golden and crisped in places.
- 06
Serve the bread warm with extra spring onion slices sprinkled over.
